House Training

Keeping your Red Heeler dog inside your house is a good way to have a good relationship with him during the times you both need to retire from your daily activities. But house training is an important training that an owner should give to avoid unwanted cleaning every now and then. The solution is extreme attention and alertness during their puppy stage. You have to make sure that you’re always watching him and allowing him to go out constantly at the same spot at least every 30 minutes during the first week and longer with the succeeding weeks for him to get the idea and be used to it.

Yeah, I know it’s not an easy job. Staying focus for the first week is really frustrating. But that’s the sacrifice you have to make to avoid your spouse or your parents kick you out with your Red Heeler.

So, here are the few tips you need to remember to make training easy:

  • If you will take him out, take him to the same spot always. The familiar smell will encourage him to go. Do it on regular with short interval basis and give him the chance to do his thing.
  • If he starts doing his thing alone without you guiding him outside the house, give him a treat. It will make him feel that he is doing it right and you are satisfied.
  • If you can’t watch him and you know he can’t still go out unattended, then confine him into a small place or put him on a short leash. Dogs like to keep their areas clean and this strategy would discourage him to urinate or defecate.

Remember that as the owner, you are responsible in teaching and training him. If he "do" it somewhere inside your house, it’s not actually his fault. Don’t get mad, it won’t help. He just not learned your lessons well. Take time to do the training over and over. After all, it’s just a puppy.
